Personalized Medicine Session
JUNE 5, 2018 11:00 a.m. — Precision Medicine: Coming of Age Room | 259B, Level 2
1:45 p.m. — Partnerships Power Precision Health: Collaborative Models for Advancing Personalized Medicine Room | 259B, Level 2 This session will offer different views on the opportunities and challenges involved in collaborative efforts to deliver on the promise of personalized medicine. Panelists will offer examples and ideas for multidisciplinary collaboration.
3:00 p.m. — Improving Health Through Focused Screening of Populations Room | 259B, Level 2 The potential for better outcomes, decreased costs, and insights coming from basic and translational research are driving health systems toward precision medicine. Multi-omic technologies are accelerating the path to discovery, diagnosis and treatment, and are being deployed with large-scale clinical utility. In this session, panelists will present large-scale programs aimed at screening healthy populations for actionable genetic and biochemical risk factors.
6:00 p.m. — Annual PMC/Foley & Lardner Cocktail Reception Location | Legal Crossing, 558 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111 On the evening of June 5, 2018, PMC will again welcome many of personalized medicine’s most distinguished leaders at the Annual PMC/Foley & Lardner Cocktail Reception, which will take place at Legal Crossing. The reception will feature classic East Coast cuisine and contemporary cocktails that draw influence from the neighborhood’s colorful past. NOTE: This reception is not a formal part of the BIO Convention program. Please RSVP using the link provided even if you are already registered for the BIO Convention. Co-organized by JUNE 6, 2018 11:00 a.m. — The Next Generation of Personalized Medicine: A New Regulatory Paradigm for NGS Panels Room | 259B, Level 2 The science driving personalized medicine continues to push innovation toward better patient care, but successful innovation requires technology development incentives and appropriate policies governing regulatory oversight of novel diagnostic tests and testing platforms. This panel will provide insight into the evolving status of regulatory oversight of various types of advanced diagnostics, discuss current and evolving policy at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and explore the potential impact that these developments will have on medical research, product development, and market access.
1:45 p.m. — Realizing the Potential of Clinical and Consumer Genomics Room | 259B, Level 2 This session will feature a discussion about consumer access to inexpensive sequencing technologies from companies that claim to use genetic data for various health-related objectives, from personalized training programs to better understanding disease risk. Panelists will explore the available business models and how companies are handling issues around data management, data privacy and ownership.
3:00 p.m. — Precision Diagnostics: Trends in Evidence Development for Medicare and Commercial Payers Room | 259B, Level 2 This session will offer an exploration of trends in how payers evaluate evidence to support coverage for precision diagnostics, highlighting the growth of the coverage with evidence development (CED) model, in which tests are covered while additional clinical utility data are collected. The discussion will focus on Medicare’s CED policy and Palmetto’s MolDx program.
4:15 p.m. — Personalized Medicine in Action: Examples of Clinical Implementation Room | 259B, Level 2 This session will examine two pioneer personalized medicine programs — their strategies, experiences, and successes in achieving and demonstrating value — as examples of the clinical implementation of personalized medicine and the associated health care delivery benefits.
JUNE 7, 2018 9:00 a.m. — Is Biotechnology Drowning in Health-Related Data? Room | 259B, Level 2 This session will feature a discussion about the potential of big data initiatives in health care. Has the value of big data been over-promised? How do we separate hype from reality? What can and is being done, and what is simply big data hubris? It seems biotechnology is drowning in its own data — how will it swim?
10:30 a.m. — Bridging the Gap: Adding Dynamics to the Diagnostic/Therapeutic Interface Room | 259B, Level 2 This session will profile the newest technologies in personalized medicine and how they will fit into future health care models. Can new technologies utilizing dynamic biomarkers, wearables, bioinformatics and multi-omics help justify the case for new therapeutic strategies or ease the regulatory and reimbursement pathway?
