Hadassah Teams with Sister to Sister to Improve Women’s Heart Health Worldwide

Collaboration to increase awareness of risk factors; co-promote events and break-through research
New York – In a move that will bring a renewed effort to the fight to improve women’s heart health, Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has announced a collaboration with Sister to Sister: The Women’s Heart Health Foundation.
Through this agreement, the organizations will jointly promote Every Beat Counts: Hadassah’s Heart Health Program, a co-collaborated tool kit of information, resources and references that Hadassah chapters across the U.S. will use to educate and empower women regarding their heart health/heart disease prevention.
Together, the organizations will also promote Sister to Sister’s community-based cardiovascular screening events, educational materials, online awareness campaigns and “Smart for the Heart”, a free, scientifically-based online and mobile cardiac risk assessment and prevention program. This program will be developed and monitored in close collaboration and partnership with leading cardiologists in the medical and research community. This innovative platform will offer a unique opportunity to collect in-depth heart health data with global reach, monitor risk factors and assess the impact of a technology based behavior modification program on improving heart health.
Marcie Natan, National President of Hadassah, praised the announcement as an important move that will improve women’s health in the United States and worldwide. “Sister to Sister has long been a leader in the field of women’s heart health education and prevention. Their online assessment tool has helped countless women across the country identify their heart disease risk factors and ways to improve their cardiovascular health. We at Hadassah are proud to join in the effort to promote this lifesaving program.”
Sister to Sister’s Executive Director, Susan Gurley expressed her excitement to collaborate with Hadassah. “Sister to Sister strongly believes in working with like-minded organizations both in the U.S. and abroad to promote heart disease prevention. Together with Hadassah, we can help make women aware of how to improve their personal risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This partnership will strengthen progress in the ongoing battle against heart disease in women worldwide, and we are excited to move forward on this front.”
Heart disease is the number one cause of death of women both in the United States and worldwide, and 1 in 3 women over the age of 20 currently have some form of cardiovascular disease. Women present symptoms differently than men. A woman is currently 10 times more likely to die of heart disease than of breast cancer, and 42% of women who suffer a heart attack die within one year (compared to 24% for men). However, research has shown that 82% of heart disease is preventable, and identifying the warning signs is one of the best ways for women to protect themselves and live a heart healthy life.
