BIO
Dr. Pearlman holds degrees of MD from UCHC 1980, ME at University of Virginia (Biomedical Engineering) 1985, and PhD, University of Virginia (Engineering, Applied Sciences) 1986, plus an honorary Master of Arts from Dartmouth. His PhD work discovered the liquid crystal nature of atherosclerosis, and pioneered MRI and ESR methods for its detection and characterization including identifying the major role of body temperature changes and triglycerides in the change of state that causes vessel damage. He completed a Cardiology Fellowship at University of Virginia 1983-1986, with NIH Research Fellowship in 1985-1986 and Fellow in Noninvasive Imaging: Department of Medicine, Cardiac Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA 1987, and a fellowship in Geriatrics and Leadership at UCLA 2014.
In the pursuit of his 2 degrees in biomedical engineering and applied sciences, he developed skills and experience for designing projects and team building that generated highly productive multidisciplinary collaborations. Specifically, he worked productively with Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Molecular Biology, Oncology, Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Surgery, plus basic science departments including Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physiology and Biophysics, and Business as well as other Schools, and was promoted to full Professor in Medicine, Radiology, Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science.
He serves as Editor for E-Medicine and for Leaders in Pharmaceutical Intelligence (LPBI) Group’s Open Access Online Scientific Journal http://pharmaceuticalintelligence.com, including a three volume theme of e-Books on Cardiovascular Causes, Diagnosis, https://lnkd.in/e6WkMgF
In addition, management and grant reviewer for multiple agencies including NIH and AHA.
He sponsored numerous PhD’s and MD’s in cardiovascular clinical excellence and efficiency, generating and fostering basic research and bench-to-bedside translational research. His breadth of experiences includes funding and directing a supercomputer facility, funding, designing and building advanced cardiovascular imaging centers. He designed and directed a supercomputer facility and advanced imaging centers with MRI, CT, PET, marked by 23 patent claims, and over 4,000 citations in scientific peer-reviewed literature. His supervisory roles include chief of cardiology, vice-chair and chair of Medicine, directorships in engineering, computer science, magnetic resonance, advanced imaging and medicine, hiring, remediating, program development, team building, designing and providing training at advanced levels (including founding and teaching advanced coursework at MIT and Harvard).
