Better Air’s Fact Sheet
Company Overview
Founded in 2010, Better Air Ltd develops solutions associated with problems correlating to living in enclosed areas. Better Air has invented BioZone, a system that improves and enhances the quality of air and resolves issues associated with long stays within any closed area. BetterAir’s system and technology is based on the Probiotic concept, and wherever deployed, restores and preserves the natural balance of our Biological Ecosystem.

Problem/Opportunity
The source of many health problems such as allergies, fatigue, headache, dizziness and more have been identified and attributed in recent years to confinement in closed areas that are improperly maintained and/or ventilated. These issues are cataloged as:
SBS )Sick Building Syndrome( – A rapidly rising phenomenon linked to time spent in enclosed areas in which building occupants experience acute health and comfort effects, with however no specific illness or cause identifiable.
BRI) Building Related Illness) – Symptoms of diagnosable illness are identified and can be attributed directly to airborne or surface contaminants in buildings.
Hospitals associated diseases– A growing relationship between airborne colonization
(MRSA colonization) and infections in intense care units
A major factor and cause of these problems is inadequate air circulation, as well as accumulation of mold and dirt on rugs, furniture and especially inside the Air Conditioning systems, a perfect breeding ground for mold and Pathogenic (bad bacteria spores. The contamination affects the ducts and air passages as well. Ultimately Pathogens are “blown” out through the AC shutters.
It is perceived that beside the medical harm and unease inflicted on humans who stay within closed areas for long hours, the price tag related to work absence due to sick leave is measured in many $ billions.
Employers are increasingly becoming aware of the direct and indirect costs of absence to their organizations. The direct costs include statutory sick pay, cost of replacement staff and loss of output. According to the UK office for national statistics, It has been estimated that the direct cost of absence to the UK economy in 2003 was £11.6 billion.
Solution/Technology/Product
BetterAir has developed a unique Ecological solution for controlling Pathogenic outbreaks on surfaces using nature as its main component. By facilitating the biological equilibrium, defining the term Ecological balance, the technology ensures a sufficient amount of highly beneficial “good” bacteria in every space and on a constant basis to consume the resources needed by bad bacteria. This effectively eradicates the bacterial contamination the result of harmful bacteria colonies) as the pathogenic colonies are totally replaced by the good, long acting bacteria.
Clients who use BetterAir’s technology transform their area into a safer, healthier, well balanced environment, hence protecting their workers and clients.
Where BetterAir systems are installed, the immediate benefits include:
- Reduction of the many sources of Allergies.
- Bio Security – total Reduction of all kinds of Pathogens (bad bacteria).
- Elimination of bad odor – Bad bacteria is the cause of bad odor; when the bacteria are gone, so is the bad smell. BetterAir is the only solution that restores pleasant odor to enclosed areas without the need to “mask” bad odor with perfume or chemicals.
The BetterAir system is an automated & modular system designed to distribute a special Probiotics compound developed for long lasting protection over any “open air” condition. The tailored system provides coverage to any enclosed area: halls, high rise buildings, hospitals, schools, shopping malls, buses and more.
BetterAir’s Uniqueness:
The System & implementation
Efficacy Test
The BioZone system uses Probiotic Bacteria as an Ecological Balancing agent, based on the use of a mixture of spores of the genus Bacillus (The type that were approved by the EU as 100% safe and non toxic following five years of extensive clinical tests ).
One of many tests was conducted together with the Ariel Properties Group, Israel’s largest and oldest group in the property management sector at their Rubinstein Tower in Tel Aviv. The results are conclusive as have been in all other places- the Bacillus spp became the majority of bacteria population and crowded out all other bacteria species gaining control over the sampled areas. The same exceptional results were found in a test conducted in the Azrieli skyscrapers.
Business Model
BetterAir’s model is based on long term recurring revenues. BetterAir rents a complete package, providing “Indoor Bio-Security” while collecting recurring fees on a monthly basis.
The cost of services rendered is divided into 2 parts:
- Initial design, engineering & installation. Price: 200$-300$ one time fee.
- Ongoing Maintenance – immediately after installation and calibration, the automated system takes over while BetterAir’s technical personnel are responsible for the ongoing periodical maintenance including refills of BetterAir’s consumable supplies. Price: 300$-900$ per month.
The pricing for these two parts differ by the size of the system installed.
Traction/Business Opportunity
Better Air currently offers both air-conditioned based system and stand-alone units for full area coverage.
Since sales began in 2011 BetterAir has achieved significant milestones:
Over 21 BetterAir systems are installed in the Israeli market including:
ü Azrielli skyscraper complex (a total of 137 stories). The Azrielli center circular tower is the 2nd tallest building in Israel.
ü Ariel Properties Group including the Rubinstein Tower, one of the largest commercial properties in Israel (30 stories).
ü Bank Hapoalim- Israel’s largest bank. In Israel, the Group has over 260 branches, eight regional business centers, and industry desks.
ü 17 Pilot systems were installed in 3 hospitals and the city hall in Bucharest, Romania.
Better Air’s International Pipeline
Three installation in Hong Kong, Hilton Metropolitan in London, Marriot hotel in Miami and 4 more hospitals in Bucharest under contract – pre installation survey completed and installation in progress
Business Strategy
BetterAir has completed “beta” sampling of clients in Israel from various type of industries and proves its solution’s efficacy across various industries, conditions and platforms. BetterAir has commenced a global marketing campaign introducing its products to qualified distributors; in the U.S. – we plan to establish a subsidiary that should form as a JV with Chrisal USA headed by Dr. Lino Morris in order to manage and support the company’s activity directly with end users. In all other regions, BetterAir’s strategy is to operate through distributors who should sell the BioZone solution to qualified service provider such as building services companies and AC companies who operate in institutional, commercial, residential and industrial buildings.

The Market:
|
|
Continuous media attention focused on the health effects of toxic mold, the outbreak of infectious diseases such as swine flu and the increase in chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma has resulted in a new interest in and closer attention to indoor air quality (IAQ) in commercial buildings, schools, hospitals and homes. Building owners and operators are expected to purchase growing quantities of IAQ-related equipment and services in the hope of reducing or eliminating these contaminants from their buildings.

Competition
The competition in this area is focused on the idea of “leading air” and treating it by “destroying” of all sorts of bacteria, good and bad, via radiation (UV – Ultra Violet rays is the most common of radiation techniques) or filtration (when specialized filters such as HEPA filter “captures” all the bacteria). Better air’s product is unlike any alternative that currently exists.
One example of a competitor is BPA Air Quality Solutions LLC. One of the largest retailers of residential and commercial air purification systems in the world. The company has industrial air purification products located across the USA and Canada. Uses UV and filtration technology- BreathePureAir.
When comparing with BetterAir Active Probiotic Distribution technique, a few key shortcomings promptly surface:
- Competitors’ units kill bacteria indiscriminately.
- Since sterile space could not be maintained for long, bacteria come back to populate these spaces fast. With BetterAir’s technology the resources (dirt, mold, moisture, etc..) are gradually consumed by the good bacteria, hence leaving no room for the bad to multiply.
- These units treat only the air that it is able to “pull” back as the unit radiates /filter the air that passes via the unit chamber. BetterAir controls the area while proactively making sure every corner and surface of any space is being treated.
- A positive side effect of BetterAir’s “air treatment” is that the probiotic spray lands on surfaces, hence protecting them while the other units only treat the air.
- Because other products cannot reach sources of contamination such as mold that usually reside inside air-condition pipes, they do not eliminate bad smells; BetterAir’s devices connect directly to these pipes and treat these pipes first hand.
- Duration – BetterAir can spray a place twice a day for sufficient protection unlike other units that need constant operation.
- Maintenance – Units with internal filters are bio-hazardous when filters are not cleaned often due to bacteria accumulation.
