The United States is quickly becoming a podcast nation. According to a 2017 survey, nearly 25 percent of Americans—around 68 million—said they listened to podcasts. Forty-two percent were even willing to pay to do so. The largest contingent of podcast listeners (44 percent) are Millennials, and that coveted cohort’s tuned-in attention has attracted advertisers, whose podcast-generated revenue rose from $69 million in 2015 to $220 million in 2017. In the last four years alone, the popularity of podcast listening has doubled. Even more interesting is what people are listening to. One would expect genres like sports, news, and technology to be popular—and they are—but they are all surpassed in listenership by one unlikely competitor: educational podcasts. Educational podcasting takes many forms, but entries all center on scholarly oriented themes and inquiries, taking listeners into topics framed by academic research. Forty percent of podcast listeners evidently crave this kind of challenge.

Given the popularity of social media and online advertising as a way of generating business, it’s easy to think of the humble e-newsletter as being something rather outdated or quaint. This is a mistake: even with the huge range of other marketing and advertising avenues now available, email marketing can be a hugely effective way to generate revenue. According to the Direct Marketing Association, email has an ROI of around 4,300%, and 25% of Black Friday revenue is generated via email campaigns. Given these sort of stats, it’s clear that every email address you capture has monetary value, and that email marketing is something that can be key to the growth of a business.

Welcome to the first ACC in 30 Seconds newsletter! Matthew Herper here in a gray, rain-speckled New Orleans. What a great place to hold a cardiology meeting, where beignets and gumbo match no official guideline for a heart-healthy diet. Then again, the big story of the first day of the meeting — the release of a large study of using the Apple Watch to detect atrial fibrillation — provided its own rich diet of contrasts and contradictions.

Our Strategy in Launching a Podcast Line of Business has two phases:

  1. We are first cooperating with a Media organization which is creating for LPBI two podcasts by having three of our scientists, professionally interviewed for a Podcast of our e-Book on 3D Bioprinting: Revolution in Medicine and for our e-Book of the VOICES of Patients, scheduled for May 2019. Lead: GST
  2. We are planning our own scheduling agendas for Podcasts with Scientific Leaders in the domains of our Biomed e-Series: Cardiologists, Genomics Experts, Cancer Experts, Immunologists and Precision Medicine MDs, 4Q 2019.
